Robert Dranko

Layout and storyboard artist and designer BOB DRANKO died on February 15 at the age of eighty-four.

Dranko started at UPA in 1951 on Mister Magoo and the Unicorn in the Garden short. Later in the 1950s he staffed at Jay Ward Productions. Bob did production and character design on the features Magoo’s 1001 Arabian Nights and The War between Men and Women. He illustrated Flora Mae Hood’s book Something for the Medicine Man.

He also worked on assignments from animation studios including Playhouse, Sutherland, Fred Calvert, Krantz, Kurtz and Friends, DePatie-Freleng, Hanna-Barbera, DIC, Film Roman, TMS, Melendez, Marvel and Graz Entertainment, until his retirement in 2004. In 2005 he received the Animation Guild Golden Award.
