Comic artist and illustrator
DAVE STEVENS died on March 10 after a long bout with leukemia.
In the 1970s Stevens worked for Filmation, DePatie-Freleng and Hanna-Barbera as a layout artist and designer. In 1982 Stevens created his most famous comic, The Rocketeer, with a title character modeled after himself and a sidekick modeled after his close friend, H-B director Doug Wildey. In 1991 Disney produced a live-action feature based on the comic. Stevens was later known for his "glamour artî commissions, many inspired by the famous pin-up model Bettie Page.
Donations are requested in Stevens' name to the Hairy Cell Leukemia Research Foundation.
